The Jokers are currently at work on a new CD (obstensibly set for
release in the beginning of next year). At this juncture, the rhythm tracks
to six songs have been recorded. Guitarist/Vocalist Kevin Murphy promises
it to an atypical blues CD. It's going to have an eclectic feel while
still staying true to the blues. Elements of the New Orleans 2nd-line feel, afro-cuban rhythms, raw post-war blues featuring Kevin's slide guitar, and some heavy percussive west African ritual drumming that kicks off the beginning of the cd are among the highlights.
All of the players are musicians that have been in the Juke Joint Jokers in the past - alumni such as Bill Boublitz (who has worked with Robben Ford), and Ron Holloway (Dizzy Gillespies tenor player the last five years of his life) are just a few of the players that will be featured. The core unit will be Bert Adams on drums and John Marzlak on bass.
The Jailhouse Blues debut enjoyed a 6.9 share rating #11 out of 293
artists that month culled from national and international listeners
during its first month of rotation on Electric Blues Radio receiving
over 2100 spins in May alone.
"There's some mighty fine slide work sprinkled on the disk."
